A Pleasant Surprise on Amazon: An Affordable Pedometer That Works

I was browsing on Amazon the other day. I was thinking about buying a FitBit but I didn't want to spend that much. I searched for pedometer watches, and I found this one called a "JoyBand."

It looked pretty slick, so I clicked on the picture. I saw that it was going for $39.99, so I was curious. If it was good enough to do the job, that would be a much cheaper option! So I kept reading the description to see what it could do.

The description said it can track your steps (obviously) and estimate how many calories you've burned. It's splash-proof and durable, and the battery lasts seven days! My friend has a fit bit, and she says she has to charge hers every 3 days or so. Not bad, JoyBand, touché.

Then I read that it can measure your sleep patterns and I was convinced. I've always thought it would be fun to see how deep I sleep but it didn't make sense to buy something just for that. But if it's a feature on something I'm already planning to get? Duh, no brainer!

I figured I should look over the reviews just to make sure this thing was legit. No joke, some of those five star reviews should really be six star reviews, because they were just raving about this thing. There were a couple of critical reviews, but that just tells me that there are still disgruntled human beings in the world that will never be happy with anything. As long as the majority of the reviews are positive, that's all I care about.

And I figured, for the price, I certainly can't lose. Shoot, I could buy two with different colors. Then I could swap them out according to how I feel that day! But seriously, I don't need two.

Then I saw that it was eligible for free Prime shipping. "Okay Amazon, take my money!" I didn't really say that out loud, but I almost did. I decided to go for it and I clicked the add to cart button.

Two days later I got my JoyBand in the mail. Conveniently, I also received an email from JoyBand customer service giving me some tips on how to use it. There was a short video showing me how to pair it with my phone and it walked me through the initial setup process. I have a new iPhone, but it looks like there is also an Android version of the companion app.

I've been using mine for multiple weeks now, and I forget that I'm wearing it because it's so comfortable. Seriously, it doesn't get in my way at all. I take mine off for bathtime, but otherwise I'm always wearing it.

Also I found out there is a workout mode too! It has a timer and shows you the distance you've run during the length of your workout. I have to confess though… sometimes I just use the stopwatch when I'm cooking because it's convenient. It probably judges me for doing really weak-sauce workouts sometimes, haha!

What else… I also love that you don't need a cable to charge it. It just pulls out of the band and it has a convenient USB thing. So I mainly charge it when I'm driving home on Fridays. Then I'm good for the upcoming week.

Actually, I've been very happy with it. It works like a charm, and I would definitely buy it again. I've been recommending it to my relatives and coworkers when they wonder about it. I just tell them I got in on Amazon on sale. Now there are several of us at work with matching wrists :) I guess that means it really is a "Joy" Band, because I'm super happy that I got one!

Click to keep reading about this step counter product
